You’ve scrubbed, waxed, washed, and scrubbed some more and they’re still there. Removing black streaks from you RV can be a frustrating task and there are tons of products out there that claim they work. So how do you know what works and what doesn’t? We’ve tried some out and want to share the results with you. In order to pick the right cleaner you first need to know exactly what you’re up against.

What Causes Black Streaks

Dirt, mildew, grime, bird droppings, and pretty much everything in the air that gets wet and runs down the side of the fiberglass will leave black streaks. RVers aren’t the only ones dealing with these annoying streaks as you can find them on boats and pretty much any other horizontal surface. The best way to get rid of black streaks is to prevent them by washing your RV often from top to bottom. This info is great if you just got your RV but what if it already has black streaks and you need to get rid of them? The answer lies in why they get stuck on there. The reason you can’t get them back off is that the material that creates them sits on the surface and is oxidized to it. Basically it’s baked on there. So we need to find a product that’s going to first remove the oxidation so that we can then remove the actual streaks.

What Will Remove Them

If you look on the shelves or the different offers online you’ll see product after product that all claim to remove the streaks and the price of them is kinda steep. We know of two products that actually work and only one of them is found in the RV sections of the stores both brick & mortar and online.

bio-kleen

Bio-Kleen Black Streak Remover
Bio-Kleen has done a great job with this cleaning solution and it’s one of the few products out there that actually work. You do have to put in a little elbow grease but you should be able to get them off. Some of the benefits of this cleaner is that it’s actually a multipurpose cleaner so you can use it for more than just removing the black streaks. It’s even a degreaser so if you get something greasy on the RV you can use this. The packaging is made of 100% recyclable material, which is great because you want to do everything you can to help preserve the environment you so love to get your RV out into! It’s also non-toxic and even safe for marine life so if you use it on your boat then you don’t have to worry about poisoning the waters.

LA awesome

LA’s Totally Awesome
The product we have found that works the absolute best for black streaks can be found at none other than the dollar store. You read that right, for only $1 you can get a bottle of this stuff that will take the streaks off with hardly any effort! They seem to just melt right off and there’s no damage to the surface underneath! Just head down and pick yourself up a bottle of LA’s Totally Awesome All Purpose Cleaner and you’re all set. Unfortunately they aren’t boasting any claims that it’s environmentally friendly or non-toxic so we are unsure of any impact that it may have.
