Traverse City Festivals
Traverse City likes to celebrate! Not only do they host the National Cherry Festival every July, but it is also home to other cultural and musical events.
Cherry pits were introduced to the Traverse City area over 400 years ago by the early settlers. Because of the climate of the area, Traverse City was the perfect location to grow them. In 1910, cherry growers began having an informal meeting to bless the cherry blossoms, and this eventually became known as the National Cherry Festival. During this week-long festival, there are pie contests, an air show featuring the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds, a huge Cherry Festival parade, a cherry pit spitting contest, concerts, an amusement park, a beer tent, turtle races, and so much more.
Bringing in filmmakers from all over the world, the Traverse City Film Festival shows old, classic movies as well as films by unknown filmmakers on inflatable, outdoor screens. This festival aims to spread appreciation for the art of filmmaking. It is held every year in late July into early August.
Summer Microbrew & Music Festival
You already know there are tons of breweries in the area, so it only makes sense to have a festival to celebrate them! This festival takes place in the winter and offers live music, local artwork, and tons of vendors! You can also catch a shuttle to and from some of the hotels in the area so you don’t have to worry about how to get back safely once you’ve sampled some of the delicious brews!
