Let’s be honest … Everyone wants to be front and center when the thunder is unleashed during Cheyenne’s daily rodeo during Frontier days. Awarded the Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year award by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) for 16 years, this is the real deal! Buckle in and get ready for heart-stopping entertainment as cowboys try to saddle and ride wild horses during the Wild Horse Races, or watch championship bull riders compete for over half a million dollars in the culmination of the Road to Cheyenne Tour. Every day is a good day to go to the rodeo during Frontier Days with unbelievable non-stop action! After sitting through one of these events, you’ll have a better understanding of why the song, “Mamma, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys” is so true!
Visit the Indian Village
Open daily during the festival, the Indian Village is located on the southeast corner of Frontier Park, and gives visitors a chance to experience Native American dance performances, storytelling, music, and a real pow-wow! You can also sample Native American food and browse exhibit booths.
It’s Parade Time!
If you love parades, then the Frontier Days Grand Parade will be right up your alley! On four different mornings during the week, you can park yourself along the parade route and watch marching bands and horse-drawn vehicles go by. You’ll also see historic floats created in 1926 that still make the journey from the state capitol building down the parade route. With floats that have names like the Vigilante Float, Hell's Half Acre Saloon Float, and Dazee’s Dance Hall, you don’t want to miss it!
Life on the Trail
Ever wonder what life was like on the trail in the Old West? Get a glimpse into life on the Goodnight Trail over 100 years ago by visiting authentic chuckwagon crews and watching them cook. During the Chuckwagon Cookoff, held on four separate mornings during the week, real chuckwagon crews will compete and be judged based on foods cooked and the state of their wagon, tools, and campsite. Championship buckles will be awarded during the rodeo finals. Located between the Indian Village and Old Frontier Town, samples will be available on July 27th from 11 a.m. -1 p.m., but they go fast!
Calling all pancake lovers!!!! Don’t miss the pancake breakfasts, where you can stuff your face with fluffy pancakes and ham and wash it all down with milk and coffee! This year they’re expecting to serve up more than 100,000 pancakes made from 5,000 pounds of pancake mix! That’s a lot of syrup and butter! These breakfasts are free to the public and served by the Kiwanis Club with help from the Cheyenne Boy and Girl Scouts. They take place at the Cheyenne Depot Square and they run from 7a.m.-9a.m. on three separate days.
