Lakeshore RV Center
It’s that time again, Campground Cooking with SJ! Since fishing is often a big part of the camping experience, I was thinking I should share a delicious yet simple recipe for frying fish over the campfire. So get out, go fishing and when you are done, cook up your catch over the campfire and enjoy!
Before you begin cooking your catch, you will need to clean, de-bone and fillet your fish. If you find yourself fishing in Michigan, the home of Lakeshore RV Center, try this recipe with Michigan favorites such as Bluegill or Lake Perch.
Skillet Fish
Ingredients you will need:
1/2 cup flour or bread crumbs
4 to 6 small fish or fish fillets
1/4 tsp salt
Fat or butter for frying - for a healthier option, use olive oil instead
1/8 tsp pepper
Skillet (an old fashioned cast iron skillet will create more crispiness)
Paper bag
- Begin by putting the flour or bread crumbs in the paper bag and then add your salt and pepper. Shake well to thoroughly mix dry ingredients.
- Drop your fish into the bag and shake bag. In the meantime, have your fat heating up in the skillet over the fire.
- When the fat is hot, lay the fish in skillet and cook for ten minutes, turning once.
- To complete your meal, you can throw some veggies in the skillet as well. I recommend a sliced zucchini, summer squash, red onion and mushroom medley seasoned with crushed pepper and a pinch of salt.
All that's left to do is to grab a plate and enjoy your fresh-caught meal. I know there are quite a few fish recipes out there, what did you think of this one? Do you have any favorite fish recipes you would like to share? Please comment below!
