If there is a wild card in the Chase For The Sprint Cup this week’s race definitely fits that bill.
The Sprint Cup Series travels to the Talladega Superspeedway and NASCAR’s biggest and fastest track for the Camping World RV Sales 500.
It’s known for three-and-four-wide racing on the high-banked 2.66-mile tri-oval facility.
Oh, and it is also known for notoriously big wrecks.
That could have a big impact on the championship points race as the leaders will try to avoid getting caught up in any carnage.
While Talladega is known for its speed and spectacular crashes, it is also famous for its camping.
Being located in the hills of northern Alabama, camping is the main form of accommodations for the 143,000 spectators that will attend the race.
Sprinkled around the speedway are 23 campgrounds that offer plenty of options for the RV camping race fan.
I have taken a look at three such RV parks along with the camping options inside the 212-acre infield.
DOVE RIDGE CAMPGROUND
Is located directly across the street from the speedway and has over 400 sites available for RV camping.
This RV Park also offers the following:
• Water and electric
• 30 and 50 amp electricity for Travel Trailers, 5th Wheels, Toy Haulers, and Motorhomes
• Dump stations
• Portable toilets
• Showers
Campsites are generally rented from the Tuesday before the race until the following Monday and range in price from $250-$300.

WAZOO CAMPGROUND
This campground has over 100 sites and is located only a half mile from the speedway. It also offers the following amenities:
• 60 lots with water and electric only for Travel Trailers, 5th Wheels, Toy Haulers, and Motorhomes
• 59 lots with 20 and 30 amp electric
• Private portable toilets
• Restrooms and showers
• Dump station
• Tram to speedway
Campsites are generally rented from the Tuesday before the race until the following Monday and range in price from $250-$300.
GRAND STAND RV PARK
Is the closest privately owned campground to the speedway as it adjacent to the speedway property.
This park has 44 sites total and offers the following:
• 22 sites with water and 50 amp electricity for Travel Trailers, 5th Wheels, Toy Haulers, and Motorhomes
• Camp sites 30 X 50
• Dump station
• Clean water
• Portable toilets
• Garbage dumpsters
The cost to camp from Monday to Monday during race week is $400.

Free camping, on a first come-first served basis, is available for those who show their tickets for the Sunday race.
For a price, guests can even camp on the infield at Talladega.
